Lakeside Christian Church in Springfield, Illinois, approached us in early March about doing some work together. They wanted to have 1981 do some creative work for their upcoming sermon series titled “Reset.”
When I got started in designing the project, I wanted to keep in mind each place this design would end up going. I knew going into the project that there would need to be a motion graphic for the series that was engaging as a pre-sermon bumper video. This led me to spend time throwing some ideas around in Adobe Illustrator and After Effects and I am so excited about how it turned out. I had to learn a few new tricks, like animating the TV turning off and creating a color-changing loading bar, but I’m really happy with how it came out!
Projects like this bumper video are so much fun for me because I get to stretch so many creative muscles. The voiceover came from a short write-up Lakeside gave us about the overall theme of the series. I got to spend a little bit of time crafting the VO and music to be just what I imagined. Lastly, I got to spend a few hours in After Effects to make it all come together. You can see this bumper video in action starting April 24, 2022, at Lakeside Christian Church in Springfield, IL.
I had the help of a few assets from outside sources. I used a static overlay from one of my absolute favorite creatives, Ezra Cohen.
